So that’s that for another year. Numbers were considerably down due, no doubt, to the football but we emerged unbloodied! After the official opening by Councillor Kim Botting. Mayor of Bromley, the afternoon went into full swing.
The entertainment we thought was spectacular; kicking off with Orpington May Queen Jasmine and her entourage giving us 20 minutes of Maypole Dancing, even involving the crowd in the final dance. Eagle Heights were thrilling, the Croydon Steel Orchestra were their usual superb selves and the Force 10 Big Band accommodated themselves around the football to round the afternoon off in superb swinging style.
And those flying displays - well what can you say. A beautifully elegant and delightful display from Steve Monk in the Chipmunk was followed 45 mins later with a Spitfire display from Dan Griffith which many said was the best yet. Looping and rolling with loads of topside passes all accompanied by the sweet sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin. Perfection on a summer’s day!
Mark Jefferies suggested moving his display slot forward 10 minutes to sit it during the halftime of the England Sweden game and boy did he deliver. An unlimited aerobatic routine which included every gyroscopic and tumbling manoeuvre in the book plus a few more, Mark provided the best half time entertainment a World Cup game has ever had.
Another huge thank you to our Chelsfield Flying Club who paid for these flying displays, making our Fair just that bit different.
The team are finally kicking back after quite a difficult week during which we made the decision to buy a TV at vast expense to show the match. The committee would like to thank all of the volunteers who went the extra 10 miles yesterday in the most sweltering heat.
And most of all can we thank you all for turning up and supporting the Fair. Hope you enjoyed it!
See you 13th July 2019!
And relax....
